LUCY CARMICHAEL APPOINTED CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

As of 3 December 2024, Stefan Bollinger has stepped down as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the LSA, due to a relocation overseas.  Current LSA trustee Lucy Carmichael has been appointed as Chair with immediate effect.

Lucy has been a member of the Board of Trustees for the London School of Architecture since December 2022 and is Associate Director at De Matos Ryan, longstanding member of the LSA Practice Network, where she leads on practice strategy, drawing on over 20 years’ experience supporting excellence in architecture and the built environment. Lucy was RIBA Director of Practice from 2015-2021, leading the programme promoting effective practice and professional standards, with a focus on ethics, sustainability, building safety, and equality, diversity and inclusion. Lucy worked at CABE from 2003-2010 where she set up and managed CABE’s London 2012 design review service and went on to carry out research for the Olympic Delivery Authority on delivering design excellence.

“I am delighted to serve the London School of Architecture as chair of the board of trustees. I would like to thank Stefan Bollinger for his leadership of the board and support for the school during his year as Chair. We wish him well on his next chapter in Zurich, and though his tenure was brief, his impact has been considerable. He will remain a true friend to the school.

Having been a board member for two years, I have really understood how LSA provides a radical and much needed model for collectively fronting up to the challenges built environment professionals are uniquely placed to address. The partnerships the school forges between our talented future leaders, network of practices, academics, the construction industry and beyond are as urgently needed as they are exciting. I have dedicated my career to a more equitable, sustainable and impactful built environment and construction industry, and feel honoured to be part of the next stage of the LSA’s future-facing vision.

I look forward to working with Neal, his team and faculty, the trustee board and the LSA’s supporters and partners, to provide the best possible experience and outcomes for our students and take the school to the next level.”

– Lucy Carmichael
