LSA given special mention by Blueprint Magazine as two students honoured
Blueprint for the Future showcased the work of the brightest, most interesting and challenging architecture students graduating Part 2 across London. In 2018, two LSA students were honoured while a further seven were noted for their final project work in a three-day exhibition at Arper in London and in the print edition of Blueprint Magazine.
Charlotte Madgwick was awarded the Blue Riband for her project Islington’s Supported Housing for Women. In 2017, Islington was rated the worst place for a woman to live in the UK. Charlotte addressed this issue by borrowing a Finnish model for housing and providing emergency accommodation, six-month supported homes and longer term low-rent almshouses. The cluster, writes Blueprint Magazine, ‘encourages a system of companionship, around shared courtyards… while also forming a natural and secure boundary to the site’.
James Cornish Hignett was given a special mention for his project Holloway Common, which seeks to repurpose HMP Holloway – once Western Europe’s largest women’s prison – into housing. ‘For 165 years, the site has formed a void in the urban context; the common proposes to preserve this void but transform it into a much-needed public space in Islington,’ said Blueprint Magazine.
The other students praised in the exhibition were:
Ben Breheny
Claire Seager
Hannah Bowers
Katrina Duncan
Lisa McDannell
Robin Chatwin
